KYRGYZ REPUBLIC-MALAYSIA

Diplomatic relations between Kyrgyzstan and Malaysia have been established in April 1992. The Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Malaysia was opened in 1997, with the assistance of Government of Malaysia, and, specifically, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia H.E. Mahathir Mohamad.

In 1995, Askar Akaev, the former President of the Kyrgyz Republic, conducted the first official visit to Malaysia.

In 1996, H.E. Mahathir Mohamad, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, made a reciprocal official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic.

In 1996 – 1997, Malaysian and Kyrgyz experts carried out a joint study of the opportunities of Kyrgyz economy, which resulted in the recommendations of Malaysian side for effective development of a number of sectors of Kyrgyz economy. The recommendations have served as the basis for the Report of joint economic study on the eleven priority economic areas.

In 1997, the former leader of Malaysia visited Kyrgyzstan once again with working visit.

In the year of 2000, Amangeldy Muraliev, the former Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, visited Malaysia with the official visit.

In 2002, Askar Akaev, the former President of the Kyrgyz Republic, visited Malaysia with the second official visit.

In 2003, the official delegation, led by Altay Borubaev, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic, visited Malaysia. The official delegation took part in the 10th OIC Summit, held in Kuala Lumpur.

 In 1997, the joint Kyrgyz-Malaysian Special Economic Commission was established.

 From 1997 to 2002 the Commission held 5 meetings.

Kyrgyz Republic attaches great importance to further development and strengthening of political dialogue with Malaysia, as well as to the enhancement of bilateral relations in trade and economy, investment, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres of mutual interest.

Within the framework of cooperation through the international organizations, Kyrgyzstan is highly interested in close cooperation with Malaysia to provide mutual support for political initiatives of two countries on the international arena.

The announcement by the United Nations the day of February 20th as the World Day of Social Justice

The election of the Kyrgyz Republic for the post of Vice-Chairman of the 63rd Session of the UN General Assembly in New York

The election of the Kyrgyz Republic as a full member of the international Asian regional association “Asia Cooperation Dialogue» under patronage of Thailand

The Government of the Kyrgyz Republic has also, in its turn, supported several foreign initiatives of Malaysia, in particular, one of the recent:

 Election of Malaysian candidate to the UN Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
