Kyrgyzstan-Thailand

 

The Kingdom of Thailand has recognized the Independence of the Kyrgyz Republic in December 26, 1991.

Diplomatic relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Kingdom of Thailand established on August 6, 1992.

Bilateral relations between Kyrgyzstan and Thailand are emerging. In 1996, a delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, which has shown an interest in the establishment of the Thai friendly and mutually beneficial relations with Kyrgyzstan. During the visit, was reached an agreement  on the organization of the 1997 visit of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Askar Akaev to Thailand. In this regard, the Ministry carried out some work on the preparation of and agreement with the Thai side projects of the following documents:

  • Joint Declaration on the principles of cooperation;
  • Agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism;
  • Protocol on Cooperation between the Foreign Ministries of Kyrgyzstan and Thailand;
  • Agreement on Air Services;
  • Agreement on economic, scientific and technical cooperation.

In February 1998, Thailand visited the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs A.Dzhekshenkulov to participate in the meeting of Asia-Pacific countries. During the meetings at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand had discussed the establishment of the legal framework of bilateral relations.
Positively developing cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Kingdom of Thailand in the framework of multilateral diplomacy. Thailand has become a co-sponsor UN resolution declaring the International Year of Mountains and the 2,200th anniversary of Kyrgyz statehood.

Trade and economic relations are at an early stage of development. The total volume of trade between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Kingdom of Thailand in 2009 amounted to 2.2 million dollars. US, which is less than in 2008 by 8.3%. In January-September 2010 the foreign trade turnover amounted to 2.8 million USD and increased by 56%. Including exports to Thailand were not observed, the import of 2.8 million. USA. Import growth is due to an increase in import of ground transportation by 2.4 times, paper and cardboard 30%. However, in the long term possible areas of bilateral cooperation:

  • In political sphere - the establishment of friendly bilateral relations and for support in the promotion of actions, the national interests of the Kyrgyz Republic in International organizations.
  • In economic sphere - cooperation in tourism, agriculture, mining and food processing industries.
  • In social sphere - the development of projects in the field of culture, science, education and health.
