Third World Nomad Games are being held by under the patronage of UNESCO

Bishkek, July 24, 2018 / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov met with executive secretary of the Kyrgyz National Commission for UNESCO Sabira Soltongeldieva.

Soltongeldieva informed about the work and plans of the National Commission for UNESCO to promote national values, the president’s press service reported.

She said that UNESCO provides patronage to the Third World Nomad Games.

In addition, the traditional horse game Kok-boru is included in the representative list of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage.

The UNESCO’s decision on Kok-boru, which was adopted in December 2017, was the result of the four-year work of the National Commission for UNESCO, together with the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism, the country's experts.

Jeenbekov noted that the granting of UNESCO's patronage to the Third World Nomad Games and the including the Kok-boru game into UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage is a great achievement, pride and victory for all Kyrgyz people.

"The patronage of UNESCO will contribute to raising the status of the World Nomad Games in the international arena," the president said expressing gratitude to the Secretariat of the National Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic for UNESCO for the fruitful work.

"This is a great achievement – including the Kok-boru game on the UNESCO list on behalf of Kyrgyzstan, as there were other countries that tried to include the game on the list on behalf of their country," Jeenbekov said.
